10 Tips For Hurricane Insurance Claims

  1. Make your Hurricane Ida claim now, don’t wait. Photograph and video everything.
  2. Take pictures and video of all your damages no matter how small and all of the property that you have to throw out. Take these videos/pictures prior to any repairs being made.
  3. Document your communications with your insurance company.  Keep a journal of your documentation of your communication with your insurance company, noting the date that you first make your claim and all subsequent conversations with your insurance company. Note your claim number and any requests by the insurance company to produce information.
  4. Review your insurance policy thoroughly.  Whether it is a homeowner’s business, or business interruption claim, we will review your policy carefully noting hurricane deductibles that are larger than normal deductibles. WE CAN DO THIS FOR YOU.
  5. Don’t reply on your insurance adjuster to be accurate.  Remember your insurance adjuster works for your insurance company and not for you.
  6. Immediately start getting repair estimates for all your damages and try to get at least two (2) estimates.
  7. Make list of personal property that has been damaged. Personal property would include such things as clothing, furniture, books, etc. and take pictures/video of same.
  8. If you have receipts for the damaged property, that would be great.  Most people do not keep receipts long. If you do not have a receipt you can research online replacement costs of such items to submit to your insurance company.
  9. Additional living expenses.  Save all receipts for additional living expenses if you had to evacuate from Hurricane Ida. Such expenses might include hotels, meals, gas, rent, etc.
